Jordan Dean
Headshot photographer & film director
I’m a headshot photographer and award-winning film director based in Hull, working with actors and creatives across the UK.
I approach headshots the same way I approach casting for film: looking for clarity, truth, and stillness — images that don’t shout, but hold attention. My aim is always to create photographs that give casting directors confidence and leave space for them to imagine you in a role.
Alongside photography, I’ve spent over ten years working as a director and producer in film. That experience shapes every session I run. I understand how performers work, how nerves show up on camera, and what actually makes an image useful in a casting context — not just visually pleasing.
I also regularly teach and mentor actors, working with performers on screen technique, auditions, and scene work. Teaching has given me a deeper understanding of how actors think, how they prepare, and what helps them feel grounded and truthful on camera. That insight feeds directly into my headshot sessions — I’m not just photographing how you look, but supporting how you show up.
My sessions are calm, director-led, and unrushed. I’ll guide you through the process, help you find something honest and grounded, and make sure you leave with images that feel like you on a good day — professional, confident, and ready to be used.
I regularly work with actors at all stages of their careers, from recent graduates to experienced professionals refreshing their portfolios. Whether you’re updating Spotlight, approaching agents, or repositioning yourself professionally, the focus is always the same: fewer images, done properly.
A bit more about me
I’m based in Hull and work primarily across Yorkshire and the North of England. I’m passionate about supporting local creatives and building a sustainable creative community, and I regularly collaborate with actors, musicians, and theatre-makers in the region.
When I’m not shooting headshots, I’m developing narrative film projects and directing performers on screen. That ongoing connection to storytelling and performance feeds directly back into my photography practice.
